Bloomberg certification

Bloomberg for Education offers four certification programmes for students that can be completed from any computer, and make great additions to a CV. To register, please follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the Bloomberg for Education Sign Up page.
  2. Select the Learner button.
  3. Enter your @city.ac.uk or @bayes.city.ac.uk email address. The institution will automatically update to City University London (Bayes Business School).
  4. Create a password.
  5. Enter your first and last name as you want them to appear on your BMC certificate.
  6. Don't forget to check the I'm not a robot box.

  8. On the Purchase Access to Bloomberg for Education Content page, the option you need will be pre-selected. Check that the price given is $0.00.
  9. If you have to complete the BMC for your module, please ensure you have used the class code which your lecturer will have provided, otherwise leave it empty and click 'Skip for now'.

  11. You will be emailed an account activation link to your @city.ac.uk email address. Ensure you use it to activate your account within 24 hours.

Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals

Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals is a self-paced, interactive e-learning course that provides an introduction to the key concepts involved in finance and investment.

Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals consists of following modules:

  1. The Purpose of Investing
  2. Types of Investment
  3. Risk and Reward
  4. Portfolio Management

By taking Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals, you will:

  • Learn how money flows through an economy.
  • Discover some of the investment strategies that can help individuals and businesses grow their money while navigating the varying risks associated with them.
  • Define responsible investing and its benefits to individuals, businesses and society.
  • Explore different career paths alongside some tools and strategies to help you pursue them.

Bloomberg Market Concepts

Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) is a specialised training programme run by Bloomberg that teaches you about financial markets and how to use Bloomberg to access information about them.

Bloomberg BMC consists of following modules:

  1. Economic Indicators
  2. Currencies
  3. Fixed Income
  4. Equities
  5. Terminal Basics
  6. Commodities
  7. Equity Options
  8. Portfolio Management

By taking Bloomberg Market Concepts, you will:

  • Learn about the financial markets.
  • Familiarize yourself with over 150 functions.
  • Earn a certificate of completion to get an edge in a competitive job market.

Environmental Social Governance

The Bloomberg ESG (Environmental Social Governance) Certificate is a self-paced, interactive e-learning course that shows learners how to implement ESG strategies and prepare ESG reports for regulators through the lens of a fictitious buy-side asset management firm.

Bloomberg ESG consists of the following modules:

  1. Introduction to ESG and Sustainable Finance
  2. Researching and Adopting ESG
  3. Negative Screening and Positive Screening
  4. ESG Integration and Fixed Income
  5. ESG Integration and Equities
  6. Corporate Governance and Shareholder Activism
  7. Reporting Sustainability Activities

By taking ESG you will:

  • Describe ESG trends and common ESG investment strategies;
  • Analyse how asset managers integrate ESG considerations into their investment decision-making process;
  • Explain how shareholder activism influences corporate behaviour;
  • Practice tasks within various stages of the investment process.

Bloomberg Query Language

Bloomberg Spreadsheet Analysis Certificate is a self-paced course that provides foundational skills in Bloomberg Query Language (BQL) and its practical application within Excel. Through real-world scenarios, you will learn to filter, analyse, and aggregate financial data across macro, equities, and fixed income.

Bloomberg Spreadsheet Analysis consists of following modules:

  1. Introduction
  2. BQL for Macro
  3. BQL for Equities
  4. Bloomberg Spreadsheet Analysis

By taking Bloomberg Spreadsheet Analysis, you will:

  • Understand BQL syntax and core functionality.
  • Filter and retrieve financial data using BQL in Excel.
  • Apply BQL to macroeconomic, equity, and fixed income analysis.
  • Build a strong foundation for advanced financial research with Bloomberg data.
